Soul Edge Ministries – Leadership Training and Mission Gap Year

Soul Edge Ministries is a 5-month intensive leadership and adventure gap year program that aims to raise up the next generation of leaders. Through adventures and teaching, students learn core Christian Doctrine and receive 1-to-1 discipleship that sets them up for life as a strong Christian leader. During one of our 2 month mission trips, students are released as leaders to bring the Kingdom and disciple those they meet.

Our History

Established in Canada in 2006, Soul Edge has trained over 132 leaders throughout 16 courses. The mission phase started in Kenya, before changing to Northern Canada in 2013. We’re excited to launch our second base in New Zealand in 2020, which will offer a summer version of the adventure based programme.

Our Mission

Our mission is to equip young men and women to rise up as a generation of leaders; passionately chasing after what God wants to do ‘in’ and ‘through’ them. Our focus on discipleship, worship and foundational theology cultivates a Kingdom lifestyle, empowering leaders to bring real change to this world.

Our Values

We believe in the Jesus model of discipleship; creating an environment where powerful challenge can be given, the Holy Spirit can break down personal barriers and form identity, and people’s callings and core beliefs can be nurtured into action. Through leadership development and extreme adventure, the team learn to rely on Jesus in their weaknesses and cultivate a ‘missional lifestyle’, aiding them in approaching life with a Kingdom mindset.

What We Do

We exist in response to two scriptures: “For though you have countless tutors in Christ, you do not have many fathers” (1 Corinthians 4:15), and the call to “go out and make DISCIPLES of all nations” (Matt 28:19). The first 3 month training phase facilitates the growth that Jesus wants to do in each student through discipleship and spiritual fathering – alongside daily worship, daily teachings, weekly adventures and community living. For the almost 2 month mission phase, our teams will work with missionaries on the ground serving the needs of two communities – Pelican Narrows in Northern Canada and multiple villages in Vanuatu. There is a broad focus here; sharing the gospel, street evangelism and prayer, compassion projects, youth centres, high school teaching, prison ministry, discipleship and connecting people to the local church. In many ways, this means learning to simply make friends and love people, then, from there speaking Jesus into their needs. It’s about ‘being’ Jesus and not just ‘speaking’ Jesus, so we will take every opportunity to practically serve the locals.
