I was hungry and you fed me

Dania is one of the sweetest little girls I have ever met in Guatemala. Her eyes are bright and her smile engaging. She will jump in your lap or arms and give you a big hug.

Spotlight 1Yet, despite this outward appearance, she is hurting on the inside. You see Dania is suffering from malnutrition. Fortunately we were able to spot the outward warning signs from her little body and get her help in time.

Most of the time you can tell a child is malnourished by their hair. Dania and her brother Moises, both had extremely light and fine hair. Dania however, had hair which not only was extremely thin but also falling out, a sign of extreme malnutrition.Spotlight 2

Our His Hands International Program Coordinator took her to see a Nutritionist who evaluated both children and told us that we came just in time to help Dania. Listening to that still small voice after seeing a photo of Dania, I instructed Sarai, our Project Coordinator in Guatemala to get them help regardless of the cost.

I tell folks everywhere I go to stop, listen, then take action.

Again, had I not listened in this case, this precious life may have begun to have internal organ damage. The Nutritionist came up with a plan for each child in the family. We purchased the necessary supplies and the Nutritionist made a house call. She spent time with the whole family talking about proper nutrition. Then she showed them how to make simple oatmeal a nutritional meal, packed with the necessary vitamins and minerals their bodies need.

This is practical Christianity. Living a “Christ like” life following the teachings of Jesus. Matthew 25:40 is a great example we try and follow. “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”

Will you help us with this ongoing project to help children like Dania and Moises in Guatemala? We need regular monthly supporters now more than ever to continue our support of these precious children and their families.

Since 2006, His Hands International has helped countless children like Dania and Moises and their families in Guatemala.  We are a small and simple ministry. We work with one child, one family, one village at a time. We take what God has blessed us with, large or small and use it to His glory. We have placed countless pairs of shoes on needy children’s feet. We have provided funds to renovate classroom space for a church. We have provided vitamins, medicine, food, clothing, back packs, school supplies, and so much more. We also help buy school uniforms and pay for books and tuition for children. Most importantly we show these children love and compassion by our actions. They know that we genuinely love and care for them despite their situation.
