Mission Finder Podcast #28 | Season 2
Hosts: Andrew Michael Arroyo & Don Nava
True spiritual transformation is a profound, holistic renovation rather than surface-level change. In an episode of the Mission Finder podcast, hosts Andrew Arroyo and Don Nava dive into the deep, scriptural work of the Holy Spirit, exploring how God works methodically to align our entire being with His divine purpose.
Heart Transformation Over Behavior Modification
Many believers mistakenly chase behavior modification, but the Holy Spirit’s true objective is heart transformation. Acting like a master sculptor, the Holy Spirit exposes the internal areas that are out of alignment with God. By yielding to this process and allowing His divine light to flood our lives, we are gradually reshaped into the image and likeness of Jesus.
The Tripartite Nature of Humanity
Scripture presents humans not merely as physical or emotional beings, but as tri-part creations. Understanding the distinctions between these three interconnected parts is essential for spiritual growth:
- The Spirit: This is the deepest human core, specifically created for direct communion with God and designed to receive divine guidance.
- The Soul: Housing the mind, will, and emotions, the soul processes our daily experiences and acts as the bridge between the spirit and the body.
- The Body: This is the physical vessel that interacts directly with the material world through our physical senses.
Restoring the Divine Order
God’s intended hierarchy of operation is precise: the Holy Spirit communicates with the human spirit, the spirit directs the soul, and the soul governs the body. When this divine order is maintained, believers experience true peace, power, and purpose.
However, sin completely reversed this design. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve initially lived with their spirits in absolute control. Post-sin, the body and the soul took over, resulting in a self-centered lifestyle driven by “I think, I feel, and I want,” while the human spirit became disconnected from God.
Restoration comes through a living relationship with Jesus. As highlighted in Hebrews 4:12, the Word of God is alive and powerful, capable of separating the soul from the spirit. By leveraging this divine partnership, believers can break free from soul-led living, operate from their spirit, and replicate the life that Jesus modeled on earth.
