Community Service Charleston, South Carolina

Located along the beautiful Atlantic coastline, Charleston, South Carolina, is known for its rich blend of history, faith, and scenery. Sites such as Rainbow Row and the Charleston Battery are breathtaking and memorable. Some places have even appeared in the films The Notebook and The Patriot.

Not far away you’ll find North Charleston, a fast-paced and growing community with many things to see and do. The city is known for its historical plantations, gardens, and parks, as well as some of the country’s finest cultural events.

And your home for the week will be a church located right in the heart of this diverse, multicultural community. The church features an on-site gymnasium, outdoor basketball court, and several large fields. Because it’s only minutes from shopping and local restaurants, your need for coffee, donuts, and all other camp necessities will be met.

But just as importantly, the community is the proud home to numerous churches and organizations that are intertwined with city life and share a passion for making a difference in people’s lives. You’ll be inspired as you hear the stories and meet the people who serve in these amazing organizations that are helping orphans, assisting teen moms, providing resources to under-served families, or using basketball to reach at-risk kids.

What We Will Do

As your team members enter into the lives of others and build relationships with the people of Charleston, they’ll experience God working through them at projects such as these:

Oversee sports camps for kids through the City of North Charleston Recreation Department. Spend time with people receiving care at local nursing homes. Perform minor home repairs for residents.

Work on the grounds of a ranch that serves as a refuge to orphaned, neglected, and abused boys. Lead games and activities and help serve lunch at a kids camp.

We have a Local Coordinator there who maintains connections with the organizations we serve so that our relationships are sustainable. She lives in the area and has wonderful connections in the community and with the church. She will be a great resource for you during the week.

We are thrilled to be volunteering with a variety of organizations throughout the Charleston area, including a few assisted living homes, summer programs for kids, a kids ranch, and many others.
