Community Service Kenosha, Wisconsin

If you’re looking to “live on the edge” this summer, Kenosha could be the right choice! This Wisconsin city lies just on the edge of Illinois and Lake Michigan, right between the hustle and bustle of two larger cities: Milwaukee and Chicago. If the fact that Kenosha is home to the southernmost port on Lake Michigan isn’t enough to bait you, perhaps the Jelly Belly factory down the road will be more to your taste!

Years ago, Kenosha was an active center of manufacturing, but like many other cities in this part of the country, the community has been hurt by factory closures and industry changes. At the beginning of 2013, the last wall came down at American Motors—a manufacturing plant that once brought hope and income to many families in the city.

The city of Kenosha has targeted two areas as its top priority to address in the next five years: first, programs to help the youth of the community; and second, improvements to its urban areas. Week of Hope projects will directly and indirectly support these top two initiatives. You and your team will help the city accomplish these worthwhile goals with your involvement!

While serving in the community, you’ll be hosted by a church with a large facility featuring air-conditioned rooms for sleeping, a large basketball gym, a soccer field, a game room, a sports locker quality showering facility, and plenty of other recreation options. And you’ll be just 15 minutes from Lake Michigan beaches.

What We Will Do

As your team members enter into the lives of others and build relationships with the people of Kenosha, they’ll experience God working through them at projects such as these…

Lead activities and programs such as community outings, sports, recreation, exercise, and education enrichment for an organization that cares for more than 10,000 children and adults with disabilities each year. Help kids from the neighborhood learn how to build a garden, and get involved in recreation activities for children in the community through an international ministry.

Assist with a vacation Bible school-themed week for residents of a care facility, including times for Bible study, singing, planting, painting, and dining room services. Sort donations that a local ministry will distribute to families in urban neighborhoods.

We have a Local Coordinator there that maintains connections with the organizations we serve throughout the year so that our service and relationships are sustainable. He lives in the area and will be a great resource for you during the camp. We will be volunteering with a variety of organizations throughout the Kenosha area, including a few women’s centers, food pantries, local ministries, assisted living homes, and many more.
