The moment your group arrives in San Diego, you’ll feel the warm ocean breeze and enjoy a laidback vibe. Every day is a nice day, and the beach, hills, and palm trees will make you want to stay for longer than a week. And with just miles between San Diego and the Mexico border, you’ll get a multicultural experience at every turn. Get into the action at South Mission Beach with sand volleyball, see the animals at SeaWorld, catch a Padres game, visit the beachfront Belmont Park and ride a roller coaster, or try your hand at simulated surfing before you face the real waves! But with this warm climate comes one of the highest homeless and street populations in the country. And the beautiful homes that line the beach don’t tell the whole story of those who struggle. Something about the daily “sunny and 72” forecast makes people forget to help those who are in the greatest need. That is why San Diego needs you! While you’re working hard all over the city, you’ll stay in the city of Lakeside. With your host church’s space to play games and easy access to numerous restaurants your group will feel right at home. You’ll be about 20-30 minutes from everywhere: downtown, the zoo, museums, and the beach. Lakeside is 6 min away from a major junction for the San Diego trolley, giving you another transportation option.

As your team members enter into the lives of others and build relationships with the people of San Diego, they’ll experience God working through them at projects such as these: –Help families whose children are in the hospital by doing housekeeping, preparing food, and serving lunch at a nonprofit program that blesses people in that situation. –Prepare meals, serve, and eat with children from low-income families, and prepare a craft or activity for them—all at a summer food service program that’s a partnership between state and federal agencies, and local churches and ministries. –Coordinate games and readings, share a meal, and be a friend to residents of a senior wellness center or an independent living facility. –Read stories, play games, do crafts, and spend time with children through places like the Boys and Girls Club and local libraries. –Serve and spend time with people at the local rescue mission.
