Where
Nestled beside the Caribbean Sea, Belize seems idyllic. Yet due to lack of economic opportunity, its hard-working population are kept from thriving. Remote villages have very limited access to consistent and quality dental care. With an average family income of $5,000 per year, Belizeans are in need of quality, affordable dental and chiropractic care.
Skills
A full-time, administrative and clinical position responsible for the development, maintenance, and expansion of the dental program related to Global Outreach Mission Dental Clinic (Independence, Belize). The Dental Director will provide preventative and primary oral health services both on site and selected community outreach centers. The Dental Director supervises dental staff and volunteers at the clinic and outreach sites. The Dental Director provides consultation to the President and Board of Directors.
What We Will Do
Previously, access to affordable dental care was very limited and people sought care only on an as needed basis. 51% of new patients seen at GHSA Dental Clinic had not seen a dentist in over 2 years, and 76% of new patients’ previous dental visit was problem focused. After 9 months, the clinic has over 1,300 registered patients and sees average increases of 247 patients monthly.
A volunteer Dental Director manages the clinic and serves as the only dentist. The dental clinic employs three local Belizeans that have been trained as dental assistants and patient care coordinators. Due to the growth of the clinic, the clinic requires additional employees to improve efficiency.
