The Fuller Center for Housing is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing worldwide. The Fuller Center works through local partnerships that are formed with communities all over the world, including Las Penitas, Nicaragua! Our leaders in Nicaragua are focused on building simple, affordable homes for the many families that are living in shacks. They love hosting groups and welcome everyone to Las Penitas with open arms and plenty of work to do!
Volunteers for the Fuller Center for Housing will be working in the small fishing village of Las Penitas which is located about 2 ½ hours from Managua and 15 minutes from Leon. Las Peñitas is located in a beautiful part of the country where the people are very friendly and welcoming.
Trips last one to two weeks and groups can choose what dates work best for them. We are able to host teams all year round in Nicaragua. If you are an individual looking to join a trip that is already set-up you can visit our upcoming trips page on our website, listed below, to see our open trips.
The Fuller Center for Housing welcomes volunteers ages 14+ and of all skill levels. Foreign-language skills are not necessary. We accept all who have a willingness to serve!
What We Will Do
We are building new homes, which are built with concrete blocks, and will typically be 300-400 square feet. Volunteers will work alongside local masons and the homeowners on a variety of construction related tasks such as mixing mortar, carrying blocks, laying blocks, digging, and any other work related to a particular build. Groups will also have the opportunity to do some sightseeing in this Central American nation of mountains and beautiful Pacific coastal beaches.
