The Fuller Center for Housing is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing worldwide. The Fuller Center works through local partnerships that are formed with communities all over the world including South America! The Fuller Center in Peru has been working to build safe, decent, and affordable housing with those in need in the small migrant community of La Florida.
La Florida is located about two and half hours south of Lima, the capital of Peru. La Florida is a village made up of mostly migrant workers or day laborers who don’t earn enough for a decent home so they live in structures made of reed panels. We are working to change that.
Trips last 1-2 weeks and groups can choose what dates work best for them. We are able to host teams all year around in Peru. If you are an individual looking to join a trip that is already set-up you can visit upcoming trips on our website.
We welcome volunteers ages 14+ and of all skill levels. Foreign-language skills are not necessary. We accept all who have a willingness to serve!
What We Will Do
Participants will have the unique opportunity to work side by side with the homeowners and other locals to build new safe, decent and affordable homes. The volunteer work for the new homes being constructed involves making and pouring lots of concrete, rebar, digging holes, moving construction materials, piling brick and more. You will also have one or two days during the week in which you can rest or go sight-seeing. Local sight-seeing opportunities include horseback riding, white water rafting, ancient sites (Inca ruins), local open-air markets, cultural folk music and dance programs and Nazca Lines.
