Group Workcamp Garnett, Kansas

Close to the borders of Oklahoma and Missouri, you’ll find the quiet town of Garnett. Hang around for any length of time, and you’ll get to meet great people, eat in small, family-owned restaurants, and experience an old farm town that was founded back in 1857. While the downtown is getting a new look through various revitalization projects, your group will still experience the old fashioned and friendly culture of this community.

Today, agriculture remains the main source of income which has its limitations for the people of Garnett. Many homes are older, weathered, and in great need of maintenance. Younger people are leaving, in search of jobs in faraway cities, leaving behind their aging parents who need your love and support.

The people of Garnett are anxiously awaiting your arrival and the helping hands of Jesus. You do not want to miss this opportunity to explore a quaint, small town and touch numerous residents!

Skills

Your participants will provide home repairs at no cost for elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged people who need your help. Work crews typically serve the same resident for the entire trip, creating an environment where meaningful relationships develop.

Most projects are designed to be completed during the trip, allowing your group to experience the satisfaction of a job well done. You’ll serve the needs of others through projects like interior and exterior painting, building or repairing porches and wheelchair ramps, building or repairing steps, weatherization and other home repairs. No skills are needed!

What We Will Do

How You’ll Serve

At the Garnett Workcamp, your group will demonstrate Jesus’ love and compassion in tangible ways. While Garnett’s focus will be on painting, there is also a significant need for small porch repairs and rebuilds, as well as wheelchair ramps.
Because many elderly residents live on fixed incomes and numerous families do not have extra pay to put toward home repair projects, Garnett needs your spiritual gifts and helping hands to assist during the Workcamp week.

Our Partner

Our Garnett cosponsors focus on community engagement and outreach to all corners of Anderson County. With enormous support from local youth, churches, communities, and civic organizations, their goal is to bridge the gap in the Garnett communities by serving those in need. Veteran cosponsors, our partners have already hosted Workcamps in 2013 and 2016 and are eager to host another camp!
