Group Workcamp Racine, Wisconsin

Strolling along the sandy beach, lazily watching the boats head out of the harbor for a day of cruising Lake Michigan, Racine looks like the ideal location for anyone.

On the shores of Lake Michigan, Racine was once an industrial giant. J. I. Case built tractors and other heavy equipment, employing thousands. Thousands more found prosperity working for support companies, offering parts and services. Eager immigrants poured in from countries like Denmark, Italy, and Germany, bringing their culture and food with them.

Today, the ghosts of the past are just a few blocks from the beach—empty buildings that were once busy factories, windows broken and covered with graffiti left by people who have lost hope in the American Dream.

Your efforts will be part of a long-term partnership to renew an entire neighborhood each year. The people of Racine have eagerly welcomed groups like yours for 20 years!

Where

Fun things to do in Racine include the beach and the Racine Zoo!

Milwaukee is just a hop, skip, and jump away! Experience unique dining, shopping, theater-going, and more.

But one thing you MUST do while in Racine is sample some kringle from one of the many Danish bakeries! We recommend you find a local and ask them for their favorite place! While you are at it, ask them for their favorite local spot for pizza, too. Racine is LOADED with great unique restaurants!

You’ll serve the needs of others through projects like interior and exterior painting, building or repairing porches and wheelchair ramps, building or repairing steps, weatherization and other home repairs. No skills are needed!
