Group Workcamp Worthington, Minnesota

Nestled in the heart of what was once the Tallgrass Prairie, Worthington is surrounded by wide open fields and farms. Being in the breadbasket of the Nation, Worthington is home to several agricultural processing and manufacturing industries. Products from our humble community are sent across the globe.

Worthington has a very diverse population with large Asian, African, and Latino heritage communities. Even in a prosperous area, unfortunately some get left behind. Your work here will reach across ethnic, economic, and religious barriers to life up those in need.

For ages 14+

Where

Located in the heart of Worthington, Lake Okabena offers swimming canoeing, windsurfing, kayaking, and fishing with 10 lakeside park areas.

The YMCA has an indoor/outdoor pool that will be FREE to all Group Workcamps participants.

If you’re into history, tour Pioneer Village or the Historic Dayton house. You can even take a short drive to Blue Mounds State Park and see the amazingly beautiful prairie scenery, go rock climbing, and you may even get a closeup view of the buffalo herd.

You will be less than hour away from the Great Lakes of Iowa and Sioux Falls, South Dakota with many fun activities, including the amazing Falls Park on the Big Sioux River, SkyZone trampoline park, and the Wild Water West Waterpark with paintball, go-karting, and mini golf.

You will stay in the public high school that is fully air-conditioned.

When

Jul 07 2019 to Jul 13 2019

Skills

Your participants will provide home repairs at no cost for elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged people who need your help. Work crews typically serve the same resident for the entire trip, creating an environment where meaningful relationships develop.

Most projects are designed to be completed during the trip, allowing your group to experience the satisfaction of a job well done. You’ll serve the needs of others through projects like interior and exterior painting, building or repairing porches and wheelchair ramps, building or repairing steps, weatherization and other home repairs. No skills are needed!

What We Will Do

How You’ll Serve

Rural folks and townspeople alike are in need. The Minnesota winter is harsh on homes. Extra insulation is needed, fresh pain after caulking will keep out the cold, and new wheelchair ramps will help residents safely go in and out of their homes in all seasons.

Our Partner

Our partner has participated with Group Workcamps and is excited to host their own Workcamp this summer! They already have the support of their town, faith community, and many businesses. They’re excited and ready to welcome you to Worthington!
