Group Workcamps Winchester, Kentucky

Winchester is a historic town where both bluegrass and Southern hospitality abound. They are also known for their Ale-8-One soft drink that dates to 1926, the only soft drink invented in Kentucky that is still around today. Group Workcamps has been in Winchester over 14 years ago. The hard work of those participants is remembered and, in fact, the reason we’ve been invited back.

You will discover that although Winchester is a few short miles off the highway, they are not out of reach or out of touch. In this historic town and the surrounding rural countryside of rolling hills, residents just need a little help and hope.

Tour the historic Ale-8-One factory and experience their famous soft drink bottled in Winchester since 1926. Take a short 30 min drive to Lexington, the horse capital of the world, and visit the Kentucky Horse Park which boast nearly 50 breeds of horses.

If you’re up for the hour drive, visit the Red River Gorge or the Daniel Boone National Forest to take in the beautiful scenery.

Skills

Your participants will provide home repairs at no cost for elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged people who need your help. Work crews typically serve the same resident for the entire trip, creating an environment where meaningful relationships develop.

Most projects are designed to be completed during the trip, allowing your group to experience the satisfaction of a job well done. You’ll serve the needs of others through projects like interior and exterior painting, building or repairing porches and wheelchair ramps, building or repairing steps, weatherization and other home repairs. No skills are needed!

What We Will Do

How You’ll Serve

Some homes are in historic districts. Others are nearby in the rural surrounding hills. Projects will include construction of ramps and porches, trailer repairs, painting, and other repairs.

Our Partner

Although this community partner has hosted a Workcamp with us before, they are very excited to be “starting fresh.” They have gathered many local agencies, volunteers, businesses, and organizations that serve the community. Many hands will make the work a huge community effort.

During the rest of the year, our partner in Winchester ministers to the homeless and provides clothing, housing, and education to those in need. Partnering with Group Workcamps to provide home repairs for residents pairs well with the work they are committed to year-round.
