Home Repair in Breckenridge, Minnesota

Located where the Bois de Sioux and Ottertail rivers join to form the Red River, Breckenridge is a beautiful prairie town just across the Red River from Wahpeton, North Dakota. While the two communities offer a unique water park, a zoo, and even an antique carousel, a recent study reveals that 7% of the population lives below the poverty line. The slowdown in the North Dakota oil fields is being felt here, as unemployment has begun to grow.

Each afternoon you’ll return to a comfortable, air-conditioned, modern school just down the street from the water park!

A recent survey shows that over half the area’s housing stock is in need of repair. As young people leave the community in search of jobs, elderly folks are left behind in homes they can no longer maintain. Younger single parents are stretched between low-paying jobs, caring for their children, and trying to keep up with needed repairs. Your help is needed on a variety of jobs—new paint to protect siding from fierce winter storms, wheelchair ramps for aging homeowners, safe porches for children to play on, and more.

Our partners are two established anti-poverty agencies, both of whom have co-sponsored several Group Workcamps in the past. They are now joining forces to serve this community. Our partnership with them represents a long-term commitment to improving homes and lives in the Breckenridge area.
