International Mission Trip to Big Lake, Alaska

To many, Alaska stands as America’s final frontier—beautiful, rugged, and maybe even a little dangerous. But for those few who call Alaska home, hardship is constantly knocking at the door, especially for the elderly. The extreme weather conditions, the annual risk of wildfires, the tension of different cultures living in close proximity, a surprising number of homeless people (especially teenagers), and high rates of alcoholism, domestic violence, and sexual assault make it anything but a glamorous and inviting place to live at times.

When you serve in Alaska with Group International Mission Trips, you’ll have the chance to serve alongside those who are making a difference in Alaska. This experience will grow your faith and expand your understanding of the complexity of poverty and cultural diversity, even within our own country.

What We Will Do

Here are examples of the types of projects you might be involved with:

Do landscaping, cleanup, or home repair projects for elderly or low-income residents. Clear brush and debris with a local fire prevention organization, help to serve those in fire danger areas.

Assist with volunteer projects at a teen homeless center. Trail building or maintenance work.

Our projects have been coordinated by locals, and involve many different types of service. We lean on the local experts in churches and nonprofits to point us to the place we can help most. We’ve identified several key areas where you can help, including homeless initiatives, elderly housing, native programs, and fire prevention. Regardless of the work you do, you will experience “The Last Frontier” and help people in need along the way.
