San Juan La Laguna, Guatemala | Group Mission Trips
Guatemala has a rich cultural heritage, stemming back to the age of the Mayans. Guatemala, a predominantly poor country, struggles in several areas of health and development, including malnutrition, illiteracy, and infant, child, and maternal mortality. In 2010 and 2011, a series of natural disasters hit Guatemala, causing an estimated $1,8 billion in damages and losses.
But there is hope. In this small community of San Juan La Laguna, several people are working tirelessly to encourage the Guatemalan people in sustainable solutions to obstacles. This team of Americans and Guatemalans serve alongside a Christian school and a women’s cooperative to provide education, coffee farming that benefits the farmers, community garden planning, and employment opportunities for women. When you serve in Guatemala, you bring support through helping in classrooms, building chicken coops for single mothers, assisting coffee farmers with their crops, and much more.
