We look forward to meeting you! If you are planning on visiting with more than 5 people or would like to stay longer than part of a day please see our information on bringing a group or volunteering. If you would like to visit Colina de Luz call us to discuss possible dates and to go over any questions you may have. Before you come please make sure you print out the map and carefully review it, so if you have any questions about the directions we can answer them before you leave the U.S. Again, we look forward to meeting you and hope that your visit would be fruitful and blessed.
Here’s how you can serve:
Colina Education: Foundation is important, so all of our 3, 4 and 5-year-old kids attend a private, 3-year kindergarten. They absolutely love it. We have seen several of our little guys previously considered “limited” to excelling and learning to read. With help, encouragement and persistence our kids continue to improve their grades and abilities. We now have a daily, mandatory homework hour with adult staff leading different groups. We also reward those students who put special effort in their studies. Overall, we are encouraged with the work that God is establishing in the educational lives of the kid’s here at Colina De Luz.
Community Development:
LOCAL CHURCHES The Colina De Luz ministry has befriended and works with approximately 10 Tijuana pastors and churches of varying denominations. Most are very poor, yet very precious to the heart of God. As Colina has been able, we have come alongside these churches by:
• Supplying Bibles, tracts for evangelism, study aides, Sunday school supplies for the congregations’ children
• Offering scheduled sewing classes for the women of the churches, including free materials, some sewing machines are available to be loaned, Bible study time and lunch with us.
• Helping them with their construction projects
• Providing limited financial aid
• Providing food for pastoral staff and their immediate families
• Connecting American or other national mission groups who wish to come alongside a church body to minister
VOLUNTEER WORK PROGRAM
Every year, Colina de Luz helps many of people in the local Mexican community who come and participate in the Volunteer Work Program. After attending morning devotions, these volunteers help out and are invited for lunch. Then they go home with a bag of food and a bag of clothing that they have selected for their family from the surplus God has provided.
MEDICAL & DENTAL CLINICS
On Saturdays, a doctor provides quality care to as many as possible at the free on-site medical clinic. Medicine is also provided at no cost when available. A local pastor provides chaplain care to those who wait for medical care. The community receives spiritual healthcare in addition to physical healthcare through this clinic.
Colina has a Dental Clinic that is equipped with just about everything a clinic would need except a regular attending dentist! We need more dentists and hygienists to volunteer to provide the Colina kids with preventative and corrective care. Colina would prayerfully and hopefully like to provide free dental care to the community through this clinic! Will you please keep this need in your prayers?
