Short Term Opportunity to Guatemala

Global Shore Opportunities offers a number of short-term opportunities throughout the year to those wanting to serve and experience overseas missions. Some of our teams are closed teams to private church or school groups, but we offer at least three trips a year that are open to anyone, from anywhere. This could be you!! Additionally we are always open to receiving brand new teams. If your church group, bible study, school group or just you and a bunch of friends are looking to serve overseas, consider contacting us! We will custom build a trip for you.

Where

Global Shore Opportunities is based in the small town of El Tizate, Guatemala. This is “home base” for us so to speak and we have a secure, team compound where our groups stay. The Christian school that we operate is within walking distance of where our teams stay and many of the pastors whose ministries we support are within the region as well. El Tizate is located approximately 20 minutes away by bus to beautiful, colonial Antigua, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

When

We annually offer three trips that are open trips to anyone interested in serving on mission with us in Guatemala. These three trips run at approximately the same time each year and each are scheduled for 12 days. Mid-January corresponds with the starts of our school year and is the first trip. Mid July is the second trip and especially targets families desiring to go on mission together. The third trip is mid-October, corresponding with the graduation celebration of our graduating class for that year.

Skills

While we do make an effort to make use of any skill sets available to us in applicants who apply, the real heart that we are looking for are people willing to serve. We have had children on mission with us, teenagers, young adults, middle aged folk and seniors and as long as their is a willing heart, you will be a blessing to us and Guatemala!!

What We Will Do

Our mission operates a Christian school in Guatemala. We have a student body of over 325 and a staff team of approximately 30 people. All of our teams are involved with the school in some capacity or other, either in assisting in the ESL classrooms or in supporting the staff through resource development. All teams are involved in supporting a national pastor through offering a children’s ministry activity over the span of several afternoons. It is incredible to partner with the nationals and the work that God is doing through their church plants!! We also always have a construction project on the go, be it an additional classroom for our school or a home for a family in need. We try and strike a balance between “service” and “ministry” and also want to give opportunity for local outreach in conjunction with a church plant, or home visits to needy families for our school. Teams enjoy breakfasts and dinners in the team compound as catered by a local townswoman, and lunches are billeted out to host families in the community so you can have a real local experience! We also want out teams to experience some of the highlights of the country which may include a coffee tour, volcano tour, and enjoying the beautiful colonial city of Antigua.
