Short-Term Opportunity to Guatemala

Global Shore Opportunities operates a high-quality Christ-centred school in a small town in rural Guatemala. We have over 250 students enrolled each school year from Junior Kindergarten – High School. With visiting groups, our goal is that you would encounter the Lord and His work in Guatemala. We believe that short-term groups can contribute in meaningful ways, and experience greater understanding for long-term development work. We’re always looking for ways to align team skills with local need—but our greatest desire is that God would be working in the hearts of those who come, long after they return home.

Where

Global Shore Opportunities is based in the small town of El Tizate, Guatemala. This is “home base” for us so to speak and we have a secure, team compound where our groups stay. The Christian school that we operate is within walking distance of where our teams stay and many of the pastors whose ministries we support are within the region as well. El Tizate is located approximately 20 minutes away by bus to beautiful, colonial Antigua, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

When

We annually offer two to three trips that are open trips to anyone interested in serving on mission with us in Guatemala. These trips run at approximately the same time each year and each are scheduled for 10 days. We often offer family-focused trips in July and August, and a mid-October trip that corresponds with our annual graduation events. We are open to hosting teams at any time of the year – you’re welcome to message us regarding your interested team (school, youth group, adult group, etc).

Skills

While we do make an effort to make use of any skill sets available to us in applicants who apply, the heart of our ministry is our school, and we are looking for are people willing to serve. We have had children on mission with us, teenagers, young adults, middle aged folk and seniors, and as long as you have a willing heart, you can be a blessing to us and Guatemala!

What We Will Do

Our mission operates a Christian school in Guatemala. We have 300+ students and a staff team of approximately 30 people. All of our teams are involved with the school in some capacity or other, either in assisting in TEFL classrooms or supporting staff through resource development. We also seek ways to partner with local churches in our church network. We usually have a construction project on the go, whether it’s an additional classroom for our school or upgrades for our campus. We seek to balance “service” and “ministry,” and want every team member to join our school pastor on a home visit to a school family. Teams enjoy breakfasts and dinners in the team compound, with lunches (COVID dependent) billeted out to families in the community for a true local experience. We also want out teams to experience some of the highlights of the country which may include a coffee tour, volcano tour, and visiting the beautiful, colonial city of Antigua.
