Volunteers who come work with us will primarily serve children and families in our Community Care Centers, where the heart of our work is. Some may choose to support our work doing administration behind the scenes, or help with financial recording. Our Resource Center is the home base where all staff start their day, and can be pictured by Americans as a top-notch school for students aged 3-21 with intellectual disabilities. Operations staff work here all day.
We are constantly in need, and are flexible with dates, in order to have just the right folks come to join us. We request folks come for at least three months, and would love for them to commit to longer if possible.
We are looking for a retired Principal/Special Education Coordinator, Special Needs Certified Teachers, Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Adaptive PE Teachers, folks who love Administration/Organization/Finance, or anyone with a combination of those skills.
What We Will Do
Every day we do everything children with intellectual disabilities need. We assess each child, write an IEP (Individualized Educational Plan), then begin to carry out the goals in that plan. Each person will be expected to work with others on a multidisciplinary team, to enrich our work and contribute their God-given skills to what we do every day. We serve over 200 children and their families each week. Using your skills to fulfill our goals of excellent care for children with intellectual disabilities will be different for each person coming to join us. Currently we have three US-certified special needs teachers and 25 Zambian teachers working with us.
