Elective International Placement Program

Duration: 4 weeks

Program Overview:
The Dream Foundation of Uganda invites students from European schools to participate in our 4-week elective international placement program. This unique opportunity allows students to gain hands-on experience in health, conservation, and community development while immersing themselves in Ugandan culture.

Program Streams:
1. Health: Assist in healthcare initiatives, such as medical outreach programs, health education, and hospital placements.
2. Conservation: Participate in conservation efforts, including wildlife monitoring, habitat restoration, and environmental education.
3. Community: Engage in community development projects, such as education, economic empowerment, and social welfare initiatives.

13-Day Safari Itinerary:
Day 1-2: Arrival in Kampala, orientation, and preparation

Day 3-4: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (gorilla trekking)

Day 5-6: Kidepo Valley National Park (wildlife viewing)

Day 7-8: Murchison Falls National Park (wildlife viewing, boat cruise)

Day 9-10: Community development project in rural Uganda

Day 11-12: Conservation project in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Day 13: Return to Kampala, debriefing, and departure

Program Objectives:
1. Gain practical experience in health, conservation, and community development.
2. Develop cultural competence and understanding of Ugandan culture.
3. Enhance skills in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
4. Contribute to meaningful projects and initiatives.

Program Requirements:
1. Students must be enrolled in a relevant field (health, conservation, community development, etc.).
2. Students must have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate studies.
3. Students must provide proof of health insurance and vaccination records.
4. Students must undergo a background check and provide references.

Program Fees:
To be determined (includes accommodation, meals, transportation, and placement fees)

Application Process:
1. Students submit applications, including CV, personal statement, and references.
2. Applications reviewed and selected students notified.
3. Selected students complete pre-departure orientation and preparation.

What We Will Do

3 Months Elective International Placement (EIP) Uganda Program Program Overview What Happens After Booking? Once your booking is confirmed, here’s what to expect: Booking Confirmation – You will receive a confirmation email with your full itinerary, hospitals where you will work, schools where you will teach or communities where you will serve and places for cultural tourism and safari adventure places. Hotel Details – Your hotel booking will be shared with you via email or WhatsApp before your departure. Pre-Trip Assistance – Our team will be available for any questions or special requests before your trip, we will advise you which vaccinations shots to take and visa assistance. Pickup & Transfers – you will be picked up at the airport, on the day of departure, we will transfer you to the airport for your flight at Entebbe international airport. On-Ground Support – Our team in Kampala will welcome you upon arrival, brief you about the 3 months program, take you to where you will be staying, handle all the necessary paper work for you and ensure smooth running of the program. Join Existing Groups: Solo travellers welcome to join existing groups. No Minimum Number Required: No minimum number of participants required. Special Dietary Options: We can accommodate dietary restrictions such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, and other requirements. Notification: Please indicate dietary requirements when booking. Airport Pickup and Support At Entebbe International Airport, our team will ensure a seamless arrival experience with optimized pickup logistics. Our driver will be waiting at the designated meeting point in the arrivals hall, holding a sign with your name or program logo. With spacious vehicles, you can easily store your luggage – we’re happy to accommodate 1-2 suitcases/bags per person. If you have extra bags, please let us know in advance so we can make necessary arrangements. Our drivers will assist with loading and unloading luggage, ensuring a hassle-free experience. We’ll provide clear communication and support throughout the pickup process, so you can focus on enjoying your journey. Vaccination shots (yellow fever, malaria, and typhoid): approximately $300 USD 2. Visa fees: $50 USD 3. International air tickets 4. Travel insurance 5. Personal expenses (souvenirs, additional activities, etc.) 6. Optional activities not specified in the itinerary Accommodation You will be accommodated in a house. Expect to share a bedroom with 2 to 4 others of the same gender in your group. The house is safe and secure in a quiet area with well-furnished bedrooms, electricity, and running water, with security guards and caretakers. Bedding is provided, though you need to come along with a towel. There are staff who clean the accommodation throughout the week, however, you are required to keep your rooms and common areas tidy. Meals: Enjoy three meals per day, including traditional Ugandan cuisine Meals. You will be provided with three meals per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Breakfast generally includes eggs, tea, fruits, and bread. For lunch and dinner, there is a revolving menu of local stews that include typical Ugandan dishes (beef, chicken, pork, goat, fish, and vegetables), beans, rice, chapatti, groundnuts, and cowpeas. Starchy foods such as white bread, white rice, pasta, potatoes, sweet potatoes, Matooke (boiled green bananas), and cassava are dietary staples. The tropical climate of Uganda also contributes to a healthy choice of seasonal fresh fruits. Cultural Activities on weekends 1. Learn traditional African cooking methods 2. Participate in day-to-day home activities, such as harvesting bananas, fetching water and firewood 3. Visit the Ndere Cultural Centre and watch traditional dances and songs 4.
