Every child deserves a chance in life. We’re breaking the cycle of poverty for orphans in Ethiopia, Africa through education, love, care, coaching and real change in their lives and in the generations that follow. We are pleased to offer a variety of ways for you to travel to Ethiopia and participate in God’s work first-hand.

Blessing the Children International is a unique organization that is big enough to make a broad and lasting impact but small enough to offer an intimate and individualized experience for each traveler.

Our staff in Ethiopia will work closely with you to ensure that your ministry objectives are met and that your trip is personally rewarding and impactful. We know each child in our program by name and there is a great sense of community in our organization that you will be welcomed into with open arms.

Our History

Blessing the Children International was founded in 2001 for the purpose of helping children: it’s our reason for existing. While our roots are in El Salvador, we have been serving orphaned and impoverished children in Ethiopia since 2005 when we opened an orphanage at the request of the Ethiopian President. By 2007, we settled into our current location of Debre Zeyit, Ethiopia. We worked to place the orphaned children in our program into loving homes, and help meet their basic needs for food, healthcare, and education.

Our Mission

Our mission is to touch the lives of orphans, widows, and those in distress. The lives of those we touch are more than changed, they are literally transformed by the grace of God. While ministering to the physical needs, we also pour into the spiritual lives of children with the Word of God and sound Christian teaching that leads not only unto salvation, but into a life of servitude and spiritual growth.

Our Values

We believe that every child deserves a chance in life. This is at the heart of everything we do. We place a high value on education, and as a result opened the BCI Academy in 2009 to provide quality education to children in the Debre Zeyit community. We believe in raising leaders who will give back to their local community as they grow. We foster a sense of responsibility, independence and strong character, and provide resources to help the children create self-sustaining futures.

What We Do

We meet the immediate needs of food, clothing, medical care and education for the children through our child sponsorship program. We set them up for bright futures by providing an education at the BCI Academy, a school of excellence for preschool through 12th grades. We offer mission trips and internships year-round, which bring international resources and learning opportunities. We foster English as a second language, allowing us to link the children to the global community. We pray with and for and love on each and every child and give likeminded people around the world an opportunity to do the same.
