Ebenezer Community Development Organization (ECOD)

Ebenezer Community Development (ECOD) is a Malawian-based Non-Governmental Organization
(NGO) committed to advancing sustainable development and human rights through socioeconomic
empowerment of the targeted or marginalised communities. ECOD was officially certified and registered
by the Government of Malawi under the Companies Act (Cap 46.03) and incorporated under the
Companies Act No. 15 of 2013 as a Private Limited by Guarantee on June 25, 2024. Driven by a team
of experienced professionals, ECOD aims to reduce poverty and promote Sustainable Development
among less privileged communities aligning with United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and
Malawi 2063 Vision Agenda. ECOD evolved from informal entity supporting children and communities through initiatives such as
education scholarships for underprivileged students and conservation agriculture for low-income
households.
To enhance impact and credibility, ECOD’s founders rebranded and formerly established the
organisation as a Private Limited by Guarantee NGO. This transformation leverages their expertise and
established networks to enhance resource mobilization, stakeholder engagement, and project
implementation. ECOD’s developmental focus prioritises increased visibility and enhanced credibility in
the sector, ensuring sustainability and impactful project execution.

Our History

Our Mission

The mission of the Ebenezer Community Development (ECOD) is to empower the poor and vulnerable
to attain their human rights, promoting self-sufficiency, dignity, and social justice.

What We Do

The organization focuses on: Education; Climate Justice; Food Security, Nutrition, and Livelihoods; Health including WASH; Child Protection and Development; and Human Rights, Gender, and Inclusion. The thematic areas are aimed at achieving the following objectives:Strengthen community resilience to future emergencies and respond rapidly to people affected
by humanitarian crises.
2. Increase prevention and education around mental health including drug & substance abuse.
3. Promote sustainable development to reduce the negative impact of human activities on the
environment and climate.
4. To improve the capacity of rural communities’ preparedness to, respond to, and recover from
impact of disasters.
5. Strengthen families in providing care and protection.
6. Strengthen the voice and autonomy of people with disabilities.
7. Build inclusive, resilient communities
8. Increase access to food and nutrition in its operating communities.
9. Improve access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene services and reduce the incidence of water
borne diseases in program areas.
10. Enhanced productivity, income and wellbeing of smallholder farmers.
11. Secured access of women and youth to productive resources and skill sets for sustainable
livelihoods development.
12. To ensure a healthy community and work environment.
13. Support Elimination of Gender Based violence and any impediments to Gender equality.
14. Increase voices of women and Girls in both public and private spheres.
15. Increase equal access to quality education of all.
