Experience Mission

Founded in 2003, Experience Mission exists to help people love God and love their neighbors across the U.S. and around the world. We believe God is at work in all people and cultures, and we have seen over 20 years of helping volunteer groups serve and learn together the kind of impact these sorts of experiences have not just in communities but also for those who go. We desire to be creative connectors across diverse and historical divides, participating in God’s work of reconciliation, justice, affirmation, and hope.

Our History

Founded in 2003, Experience Mission exists to help people love God and love their neighbors across the U.S. and around the world. We believe God is at work in all people and cultures, and we have seen over 20 years of helping volunteer groups serve and learn together the kind of impact these sorts of experiences have not just in communities but also for those who go. We desire to be creative connectors across diverse and historical divides, participating in God’s work of reconciliation, justice, affirmation, and hope.

Our Mission

In an ever-changing world, we want to love God and love our neighbors. We believe God is at work in all people and cultures. We desire to be creative connectors across diverse and historical divides, participating in God’s work of reconciliation, justice, affirmation, and hope.

Our Values

We believe everyone desires to participate in change, growth, and renewal in this world, experiencing God’s “shalom” that brings wholeness, reconciliation, and justice. But, ultimately, these things will not be the product of what we do, but rather how we do it.

The following 7 principles are our way at EM of prioritizing the approach and posture we take when serving on mission trips. Serving this way allows us to enjoy the journey, see God work in real-time, and love our neighbors authentically and wholeheartedly while remaining open to what is already present and what might be.

1. We release the desire to make this experience about ourselves.
2. We remember we are visitors and guests, not consumers and tourists.
3. We view this experience as a privilege, not a purchase.
4. We prioritize people over projects.
5. We trust God is already present and working, wherever we go.
6. We resist the temptation to tell simple, diminishing stories about people and communities.
7. We recognize and honor the image of God in everyone we meet.

What We Do

Experience Mission invites groups and individuals from all different backgrounds to participate in the work of loving their neighbors around the world by:

1) Connecting people and communities on the margins to volunteers who desire to give their time, attention, and resources in order to be a picture of God’s love and participate in God’s work of reconciliation, justice, affirmation, and hope.

2) Partnering with local ministries and organizations who are already active within their community, allowing them to take the lead by supporting their vision for making a difference in the lives of people they live among on a daily basis.

3) Encouraging people of all walks of life to serve and love others with humility—to give without expectations, to honor the dignity of all people, to seek to foster mutual respect and trust, and to deepen their understanding of both the beautiful diversity and the complex stories of communities and cultures they encounter.
