Island Encounters

Island Encounters is all about relationships. It’s about encountering God, others and yourself. Island Encounters exists to demonstrate the love of Christ by meeting practical and spiritual needs across cultures in the context of relationship.

We do this through:
✓ Training programs for local people and international students
✓ Consultations and partnerships with other organizations
✓ Sustainable development among our local community.

Through our study-abroad programs, short-term teams, internships and more, we want to guide you into greater life encounters. Encounter God in new ways through a guided study of the Bible as well as what missions is and how to most effectively shine Christ’s light in a way that transcends culture.

Encounter others–the people of Fiji, who will teach you so much. Work on the farm and plant a papaya tree. Hug some kids. Love your neighbour. Encounter yourself. What is really inside you? Live in community and be refined by life-on-life discipleship. When you come with a heart to serve and to let God change you, it’s a recipe for growth.

Island Encounters facilitates various short-term mission outreaches/encounters throughout the year, hosting teams such as LinkYear in Missouri, Capernwray Bible School in New Zealand, Grace College in Indiana, and The Edge team through Pioneers. We also host interns throughout the year. The video above is from the LinkYear (four-week) missions encounter, and gives a glimpse of some of the things a team may do in Fiji. These encounters focus on service and cross-cultural experiences as well as exposure to and training in missions. Teams generally work on a project at Oasis Farm, conduct Kid’s Clubs in various neighborhoods, volunteer at Loloma Home (a home for single mothers and orphans nearby) and participate in various other trips, excursions and experiences.

Our heart is to stretch, challenge, and open the eyes of young people in order to make them aware of the needs in the world and God’s calling to us as Christians. It’s not lying on the beach in a hammock for two weeks . . . it’s serving the poor, living simply, and seeking life transformation through a closer walk with Christ. Come experience both sides of the postcard. . . the beauty of Fiji as well as the poverty and the needs. . . and let God work in and through you.

If you’re a leader interested in bringing a group from your school or church, please contact us for availability.

We’re currently accepting applications for a six week summer outreach programs for 18-24 yr. olds. For more details please inquire.
