KCAM Radio

KCAM Radio is made up of two community radio stations featuring Christian teaching programs, news, local information, and a variety of music. Located in rural Alaska, KCAM and KCAM-FM are the only local radio stations on the dial.

Our History

Rev. Vince Joy was a preacher, pilot, and visionary who saw the need to communicate with people who lived in the bush areas of Alaska—some so remote that they couldn’t even be reached by airplane. He saw radio as the solution to this problem.

On March 27, 1964, KCAM was awaiting final licensing from the FCC. At 5:36 p.m. the massive Great Alaska Earthquake hit. Civil Defense authorities requested KCAM provide emergency communication to displaced residents of the coastal town of Valdez, which was devastated. KCAM continues to be a lifeline for rural Alaskans today.

KCAM-FM debuted in 2011 as an all-music station.

Our Mission

KCAM exists to perform effective broadcasting ministry through evangelism, instruction, and public service. KCAM serves the needs of the community through broadcasting issues, news, local events, announcements, and information of interest.

Our Values

We believe in the Great Commission, and radio is the tool we use to proclaim salvation through Jesus Christ alone. We are a nondenominational, evangelical ministry, dedicated to sharing Christ through our programming and our witness within the community. Showing respect for the Native culture, taking part in community events, and being a part of a local congregation are all ways that we show the love of Jesus to the rugged people of Alaska.

What We Do

KCAM Radio is made up of a non-profit commercial station (AM 790) and a noncommercial station (88.7 FM). Advertising, underwriting, and individual donations help cover operating expenses to keep the stations on the air. All staff are missionaries and do not receive a salary from KCAM.
We offer unpaid internships of 12 weeks or more that give hands-on training using state-of-the-art equipment. You’ll get a wide range of experience, from on-air work to gathering news, programming music, and promoting the ministry at community events. For students needing internship credits, we customize our program to give you the experience your college requires.
Even if you have no prior broadcasting experience, we can train you if you have a heart for missions and teamwork. Besides on-air work, we need engineers, computer technicians, accountants, and maintenance workers.
If you’re looking for God’s direction in your life, we encourage you to consider ministry at KCAM. Our staff is made up of missionaries who have been called to bring the Good News of Christ through radio broadcasting. Joy Media Ministries is our nonprofit organization providing tax-deductible receipts to all donors.
