Outside the Bowl

Outside the Bowl exists to eliminate physical and spiritual hunger in impoverished countries.  But through it all, our greatest calling is to glorify God by serving His people. To date, Outside the Bowl has 5 super kitchens in operation in Mexico, Haiti, and South Africa. Those super kitchens have served over 11 million hot meals.

Our History

In 2005, Jae and Debra Evans moved to South Africa. Not long after, they began a discipleship program with some Xhosa kids in a township called Mbekweni. About 60 kids came. But many were too hungry to hear God’s Word. Two years later, the couple began feeding kids before the program. The children multiplied. God was working and the Spirit was moving in the Evans.

In 2007, Jae and Debra shared their hearts with a North Coast Church pastor, Chris Brown. He traveled to South Africa. He saw the need. And he quickly took part in the vision. In 2008, the first food center opened in Paarl, South Africa and the idea of “Super Kitchens” was born. It fed 1.5 million people in its first year of operation and continues to feed thousands everyday.

Our Mission

In response to Jesus’ command to feed the hungry, Outside the Bowl is dedicated to eliminating physical and spiritual starvation in impoverished communities by building super kitchens, and working with established community partners to serve hot, nutritious meals to those who need them most.

Our Values

Motivated by Jesus’ call to feed the poor and love thy neighbor, we serve as witnesses of Christ’s love to the communities in which we have kitchens. Our prayer is that everyone who receives a meal from one of our kitchens will also see the love Jesus has for them.

What We Do

Outside the Bowl builds and operates industrial sized food manufacturing facilities in some of the most impoverished areas of the world. We call them super kitchens. Each super kitchen has the capacity to produce up to 6,000 hot, nutritious meals per day. Rather than feeding people at the kitchen, we work with established community partners to distribute the meals. Partners include schools, orphanages, churches and hospitals, to name a few.

Currently, Outside the Bowl has 5 kitchens operating throughout Mexico, Haiti and South Africa working with hundreds of partners and organizations. Together we are feeding the hungry…body and soul!
