Our History
The Needy Today organization was started in 2005 by Mr. Dauda Ahmid Koroma, the founder and Executive Director and other young Sierra Leoneans with the intent of providing support to children that were greatly devastated by the eleven year civil war. From inception, we have supported 2078 children. We are still supporting 431 of these children. We also work with the local Ebola Response Committee since the outbreak of the virus affecting many.
Our Mission
Based on the present challenges faced by the world’s poorest people more especially in Sierra Leone which is the target area of The Needy Today, our overall purpose is to always seek lasting solutions in helping under-privileged people in deplorable situations, achieve a brighter future.
Our Values
As an organization, The Needy Today is passionate and remains committed to providing assistance to people in deplorable conditions, giving life-changing strategies to help them overcome those challenges more effectively.
The Needy Today also remains committed to readily partnering with those that see this need in our communities.
The Needy Today - What We Do
The support provided to children by The Needy Today ranges from psycho-social counseling, quality education, provision of quality care support including food, clothes, shoes, health care facility and foster care solutions. We also provide livelihood support to deprived women, youths, men and disabled people. Our assistance ranges from psycho-social counseling, education/skills training, agriculture, micro-finance/grants, entrepreneurship training, food, quality health care, and sanitation awareness. We are also in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease and are part of the local Response Committee attached to the Psycho-social and Social Mobilization Pillars providing support to people infected and affected by Ebola Virus Disease.
In the future we hope to extend to more communities, build our own schools and vocational training centers, and build orphanages as well as recreational facilities for the children.
