Our History
For more than 10 years Tree 4 Hope has supported programs at two Guatemalan orphanages, as well as at a center for elderly Mayans and an educational program in the most dangerous and desperately poor neighborhoods in the country. Tree 4 Hope has a vast volunteer network that travels to the country for hands-on experiences, as well as financial supporters in the US.
Our Mission
Tree 4 Hope is a non-profit organization committed to providing a bright future of long-term hope for children, elders, and their families in Guatemala and around the world, focusing on education, health, and mental wellness. We design our projects to meet basic needs, empower local communities, build relationships, promote cultural exchange, and inspire youth.
Our Values
Tree 4 Hope is dedicated to those who feel as though they’ve been forgotten by the world. Having walked with them in times of both great joy and terrible suffering, and having been transformed by the friendship that they have graciously extended, we recognize them for the extraordinary gifts they are. We are committed to their long-term health, education, and fundamental well-being. We promise never to give up on them.
Tree 4 Hope - What We Do
We support educational, nutritional and psychological programs at two Guatemalan orphanages. These orphanages are privately funded and serve as home for nearly 100 children between the ages of 2 and 16. These homes house orphans as well as children who have been abused by their families and removed from their homes. Additionally, each January we raise money to buy and administer vaccinations against pneumonia and influenza. At the Elder Center in Santiago, Tree 4 Hope helps to provide funds necessary to feed and provide health care coverage for 65 elderly Mayan women and men from the local village. With no social security programs and a history of civil war which killed thousands of husbands and sons, Guatemala suffers from a high proportion of poor, elderly women with failing health but no caretakers. We also finance miscellaneous emergency needs, such as funerals, as they arise. Tree 4 Hope also supports work done at several community education centers for families of gang members in the poorest, most dangerous area of the country. Tree 4 Hope sponsors several of the teachers and collects school supplies as needed.
