YWAM Townsville

Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is a worldwide Christian movement operating in more than 1,000 locations in over 180 countries, with over 25,000 full time staff since 1960. YWAM is a Christian charity that offers global opportunities for volunteers from diverse backgrounds to care, connect, serve, and build with individuals and communities. YWAM is decentralised in structure and financially autonomous. This allows each centre to adapt and to serve the specific needs of the community.

YWAM Townsville has operated for over 20 years with an aim to build capacity in young people and to develop the community through three focus areas: Training, Medical Ships, and Youth Initiatives. YWAM Townsville has grown to over 100 full-time volunteer staff operating out of a campus that takes up an entire city block in the heart of Townsville’s central business district.

Our Mission

A YWAM DTS (Discipleship Training School) is an incredible missions experience that will change your life and change the world. In five months, you’ll make amazing friends, experience training and mentoring, grow in your faith, and travel in a beautiful part of the world, all while investing your time in a movement that truly is making a difference.

What We Do

Our region extends from North Queensland, into the Pacific Islands and out toward Southeast Asia with a particular focus on Papua New Guinea where our Medical Ship operates.

Papua New Guinea has significant health challenges; 5 women die in childbirth every day, 1 in 13 children die before the age of five, and 84% of the population live in rural areas – making it very difficult to deliver health and training services. YWAM Townsville is working in partnership with the PNG National Government to help address these challenges.

Back in Australia, our young people are facing challenges of a different kind; 10 young aussies commit suicide every week, 1 in 4 suffer from depression, and 48% of girls try extreme weight loss methods. YWAM Townsville works in partnership with education and Government authorities to help instil purpose and hope in the youth of North Queensland.
