Friends In Action International

Friends in Action, Intl. was birthed from a need to support missionaries and their efforts in remote locations. Since 1942, New Tribes Mission (NTM, now known as Ethnos 360) has commissioned and supported missionaries across the globe. In 1991, Jerry Smyth and five other men associated with NTM saw an ever-increasing need for construction projects to assist missionaries in areas lacking infrastructure. With NTM’s input, FRIENDS of NTM was created as a separate corporation and subsidiary of NTM in 1992. The name changed to Friends in Action International in April of 2000.

Our Mission

Friends in Action, Intl. supports mission work in areas of limited infrastructure by using construction projects and practical service to speed the Gospel to those who have never heard.

What We Do

While Friends In Action is all about demonstrating God’s love through practical means, we make sure Jesus always has center stage. Through partnerships with missionaries, nationals, and indigenous pastors on-site, we never undertake a project without a plan for sharing the Gospel and providing discipleship afterward. What a privilege to take the Good News deeper and further to the ends of the earth!
Communities in need deserve more than short-term solutions. Through essentials such as clean water, family homes, and life-skills training, FIA is helping to provide sustainable, long-lasting change impacting generations to come. Last year alone, more than 40 tribes in West Africa, Nicaragua, and Vanuatu were transformed by well-drilling efforts. FIA also worked alongside Rama Cay and Miskito communities to build more than 50 homes for over 250 villagers in Nicaragua, in addition to providing a pedestrian bridge and laundry/shower facility.
Education plays a critical role in helping people break the cycle of poverty. By providing primary education to children and vocational training to adults, indigenous people are being empowered to build better futures for themselves. FIA’s support of bus fees and school tuition allow Papua New Guinea’s children a chance to reach their God-given potential. Whether woodworking, masonry, welding, or general construction skills, FIA is helping hundreds of indigenous people develop new skills to pass along to neighbors and create alternative income venues in some of the most impoverished areas of the globe.
