PASACAT (with a k) is a Philippine folk dance, but began as the acronym for the Philippine American Society and Cultural Arts Troupe, founded in 1970.
PASACAT’s roots began in 1969 after a three-hour cultural performance tribute to San Diego’s 200th Anniversary at the historic Organ Pavilion, Balboa Park. The enthusiasm from the 100 participants of Filipino-American youth and their parents was the catalyst for the creation of PASACAT the following year. It’s founders purchased the PASACAT Center, 102 E 16th Street, National City in 1972 and has served as the hub for Philippine culture in the region.
