At Global Shore Opportunities’ Christian school in Guatemala, powerful stories of perseverance and transformation unfold every year. One such story is that of Brayan, a determined young man whose life has been deeply touched by faith, hardship, and God’s enduring grace.
Brayan first joined the school six years ago as a seventh grader. Initially, his dream of attending seemed out of reach due to financial challenges. At the last moment, after much struggle and prayer, Brayan’s extended family stepped in, enabling him to enroll. He credits this moment as the first of many signs of God’s providence in his life.
Transitioning into a new academic environment proved difficult. Coming from a school that lacked English and computer instruction, Brayan faced steep learning curves and personal discipline challenges. However, with steadfast support from teachers and a commitment to growth, he persevered, eventually enrolling in the school’s accounting program for high school.
In 2023, Brayan’s family faced another major hurdle. His father suffered a serious health issue and was unable to work for several months, plunging the family into economic hardship. Brayan and his mother both took on extra work to make ends meet, all the while leaning on their faith. Local church members and teachers rallied around them, providing vital support during this trying time.
Through this experience, Brayan witnessed firsthand God’s provision. Despite limited resources, they were able to meet essential needs like school tuition, utilities, and food. The trial also deepened Brayan’s spiritual walk. “We said, ‘God, why is this happening to us?’ But we also understood that God was testing our faith and drawing us closer to Him,” he reflects.
One of the most profound moments in Brayan’s journey occurred at the annual Global Shore kids’ camp. Following an invitation for baptisms, Brayan felt a strong inner prompting but initially hesitated, unsure if he was ready. He prayed for a sign, and soon after, a teacher approached him with words of encouragement that confirmed God’s calling on his life. Brayan made the courageous decision to be baptized alongside more than 80 students that day.
Since his baptism, those around him have noticed a remarkable transformation. His character, speech, and attitude reflect a newfound maturity and deeper relationship with Christ. Brayan himself acknowledges that the journey isn’t about perfection but about daily reliance on God’s strength to walk a new path.
