When Christina was just a few weeks old, her mother wrapped her in a towel, and abandoned her under a pew in our Church. Our caretaker discovered this sweet child when he heard a tiny baby crying.
Can you imagine how frightened she was? Alone and left in the dark, this little fighter, screamed, until someone came to help. It was a sign of her courage, her will to live, and her fierce determination.
Every child dreams of growing up in a home with a loving Mom and Dad, but for too many children in Haiti, life isn’t fair – especially for children like Christina! Life dealt Christina an awful hand but the Lord sent people like you and me to show her how much He loves her.
For the past 15 years, Christina has lived in Grace International’s orphanage in Carrefour, Haiti. Although born with a disability, Christina is thriving.
She’s a happy, healthy teenager excelling in school with the help of intensive remedial education and tutoring. She’s working hard to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse.

Sadly, thousands of families in Haiti are forced to make difficult decisions just like Christina’s mother. Too poor to feed their children, and with few places to turn for help, they make the gut-wrenching decision to abandon their children – hoping others will care for them.
