Mission Finder Podcast #38 | Season 2

Hosts: Andrew Michael Arroyo & Don Nava

Andrew Arroyo opens Chapter 7 with 1 Corinthians 12:4-6: there are diversities of gifts, ministries, and activities, but it is the same Spirit, the same Lord, and the same God who works all in all. Once you know what God has placed in you, the Holy Spirit’s transformative work can begin.

Andrew and Don Nava walk through three works that people often confuse: indwelling, filling, and baptism in the Holy Spirit. Andrew shares Charles Spurgeon’s reminder that the Spirit is no mere influence like the wind. He is a living person with a mind, a will, and emotions, and He lives inside every believer.

Indwelling: A Permanent Home

Indwelling is foundational to salvation. Romans 8:9 says anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him. It is a one-time event and an automatic result of salvation, not something believers must keep seeking. Your body is His temple (1 Corinthians 6:19), and as Charles Stanley writes, He comes to stay as God’s seal and deposit guaranteeing our inheritance.

Don points to the apostles. Romans 10 ties salvation to believing God raised Jesus from the dead, so they could not be born again until the resurrection. On Easter night, Jesus breathed on them, and the Spirit came to live in them forever.

Filling: Fresh Power for Each Day

Filling happens again and again. It empowers believers for bold witness and specific challenges, and it can come with manifestations like speaking in tongues. As D.L. Moody put it, no one can eat enough today to last six months; we draw on God’s resources for each day’s need. Acts shows the pattern: filled at Pentecost (Acts 2:4), filled again when prayer shook the room (Acts 4:31), filled with joy (Acts 13:52). Ephesians 5:18 commands it: do not be drunk with wine, but be filled with the Spirit. Don reads that as “be continually filled,” and he asks for a fresh filling before he preaches or teaches.

Do You Want Everything?

Don came to Christ 52 years ago knowing nothing about this. A friend told him to read Acts, starting with chapter 2. He asked Jesus to baptize him in the Spirit, and about 10 to 12 weeks later, while worshiping in his dorm room at 3 a.m., he began speaking in tongues. “It’s for everybody,” he says.

Andrew closes with 2 Peter 1:3: His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life. The question is whether you want everything God has for you, with no conditions attached to your yes.
