ACTION started in the Philippines in 1975 and currently has 35 full-time missionaries there leading a plethora of ministries throughout Metro-Manila and beyond. Our missionaries have dug in for the long-haul and aren’t afraid to go to forgotten neighborhoods and tough places to minister to the poor, downtrodden and marginalized. We are looking for church teams, interns and other long-term workers who want to know God and take action with us as we serve others.
Teams, interns or long-term workers serve in one of our ministry centers alongside our full-time missionaries. Most ministries involve working with children or youth, vocational training or serving at our Shalom Birthing Home. Our ministry centers are in Antipolo and Silang and volunteers would stay on-site.
We can help churches or universities set up a custom team trip at any time of the year given our missionaries are available at the proposed time. Interns can also set up a tailor-fit stint to work directly with a missionary with approval from the missionary and the home office.
For short-termers the main thing is to build relationships and encourage the kids, youth, and staff of our ministries. Volunteers can teach English, offer homework help, play games and teach skills such as music, woodworking, auto-mechanics, welding, sewing and basic computer skills. There will also be times to teach Bible lessons and share testimonies at our ministry centers and in local churches. Nurses and other medical professionals can use their skills also.
What We Will Do
This will depend on the length of stay and interests of the team or intern. We have five independent ministry centers where volunteers can serve. A typical day might involve hanging out with kids, visiting their families in the slums, teaching a Bible study class, English class or vocational class, cooking meals, or visiting the local market. Probably not all of those in the same day! If it is a team trip, special VBS-style camps focused on evangelism may be arranged. If team members or interns enjoy basketball, ministries can be conducted to connect with kids and youth around basketball. Our goal is for volunteers to get a glimpse of what it means to be a long-term missionary and for them to become more missions-minded, global Christians with a heart for the poor. We want participants to become more attuned with God’s heart for the Nations. We hope God will lead some to be goers and others senders and for each person to better understand their important role in helping to fulfill the Great Commission.
