Alaska Missions and Retreats

At Alaska Missions and Retreats we are transforming hearts and lives with the message of hope in Christ. We meet needs to break down walls, bringing people from apathy to curiosity about Christ, and finding Him irresistible.

Our History

In January of 2005, Brenda was appointed as a career missionary through the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention and was assigned as Baptist Student Ministry campus minister to the University of Alaska. While building a campus ministry in this pioneer region, she began hosting mission teams and creating strategies to reach Alaskans through distinctive Alaskan events. Alaska Missions and Retreats’ strategy is anchored in building relationships and meeting physical and spiritual needs. We are all about meeting needs, breaking down walls, and sharing the gospel. From summer food programs that feed hungry children in city parks and bush villages, to sports camps and construction projects, to providing volunteers for signature Alaskan events (Irondog, Iditarod, Kodiak Crabfest), we desire to reach every part of our state. We host women’s conferences in the Arctic and retreats for military families and veterans. Our partnerships with native village leaders allows us to minister in Alaska Native communities. Our goal is to spur restoration and revival in Alaska, sharing freedom in Christ.

Our Mission

Transforming hearts and lives with the message of hope in Christ.

Our Values

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is authoritative and infallible in the original writings, that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of God the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory and that that faith in our Lord Jesus Christ is essential for the salvation of lost and sinful man. We also believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life, in the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and eternal life and in the spiritual unity of believers in Jesus Christ.

What We Do

We meet needs to break down walls, bringing people from apathy to curiosity about Christ, and finding Him irresistible.
At first glance, the natural beauty of Alaska’s landscape – her snow-capped peaks, glaciers, & abundant wildlife–may effectually veil the brokenness of her people. A closer look reveals an enduring and tenacious Native whose great antagonists – which once were climate, wild animals and isolation–are now abuse, alcoholism and suicide. Still enduring and tenacious, the Alaska Native is Alaska’s real gold. Armed with a focused strategy, Alaska Missions is melting the agnostic hostility toward Christ, and ministering to broken people who are desperate for hope and peace. Our teams work to restore identity to those whom are broken, and convey tools for living healthy lifestyles.
