Arms of Love International

The seeds of our ministry were planted early in the life of Robert Benson, the founder of Arms of Love International. Himself a child of abandonment and abuse, Robert was welcomed into a new family that prayed for him, cared for him, and gave him the foundation in life that was necessary to later become a loving father and a successful attorney.

Robert was surprised during a business meeting to sense the call from God to build homes for abandoned and abused children. He quickly recognized the many ways that God had been uniquely preparing him for this undertaking, and Robert began to develop the relationships that would make the first children’s homes possible.

The first step, towards what would become Arms of Love International, was a short-term mission trip with a volunteer team from the Vineyard Christian Fellowship of San Jose, California in 1998.

The relationships built on that trip enabled us to establish the children’s home in Nicaragua, and in April 2000 we took in our first 8 children. The Arms of Love Children’s Home in the Philippines began receiving children in January 2001.

Since these beginnings, Arms of Love has partnered with other non-profit organizations and over 50 churches in the U.S. and around the world, some just down the street from our children’s homes.

Our Mission

Arms of Love is a Christ-centered family whose mission is to love and protect children.

* Receiving and responding to the needs of abused, abandoned, neglected, orphaned, and trafficked children.

* Providing a home of safety and security, a family of healing, a community of hope, and a future of wholeness.

Our Values

God’s Unwavering Love: We believe in the transformative power of God’s love to restore lives and reveal true identity, value, and purpose. (1 John 4:19: “We love because He first loved us.”)

Chosen Family: We believe that, through Christ, we are known, loved, and accepted into a chosen family.
(Psalm 127:3: “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.”)

Heart of Service: We believe service is the ultimate expression of love, in response to the sacrifice demonstrated on the Cross. (Matthew 20:28: “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”)

Strength in Unity: We believe God created us with unique strengths, and when united with the Church, we can fulfill the call to love and protect children. (1 Corinthians 12:12: “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.”)

What We Do

Beginning in 2000, Arms of Love International exists to care for abused, abandoned, neglected, orphaned, trafficked and vulnerable children in Nicaragua and the Philippines. Our mission is to love and protect children – providing a home of safety and security, a family of healing, a community of hope, and a future of wholeness.

Our three core programs include:

• Residential Protection Program – A 24/7 family-style home for children who have been abandoned or abused and require protective care. Children receive holistic support – physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual—and live in a safe, nurturing environment with trained caregivers and therapeutic services.

• Community Development Program – Outreach to highly vulnerable children and families in our surrounding neighborhoods. This program provides meals, education, spiritual discipleship, psychosocial support, and preventive services to keep families together and reduce the risk of exploitation, hunger, and school dropout.

• Independent Living Program (ILP) – Support for youth aging out of the Residential Protection Program or graduating from the Community Development Program. ILP provides scholarships, life skills training, mentorship, and a community of support as young adults transition into university, technical training, or employment—equipping them to live with purpose and independence.
