School of Missionary Aviation Technology (SMAT)

The School of Missionary Aviation Technology specializes in training individuals to serve as aircraft maintenance specialists and/or pilots with mission organizations around the world. Missionary aviation is a unique kind of aviation that takes a special level of knowledge, skills and attributes. SMAT works hard to develop and build into individuals the unique knowledge, skills and attributes most desired by the missionary organizations who use aviation to support the work of delivering the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to some of the most remote locations around the world.

Our History

The School of Missionary Aviation Technology has been training aircraft maintenance technicians and pilots in preparation for service in mission aviation since 1970.

Our Mission

SMAT’s mission is to glorify God by providing professional aviation training to a high standard that equips individuals to serve God and others through aviation.

What We Do

SMAT provides a 12-month aircraft maintenance training program that leads to an Airframe and Powerplant Maintenance certification from the Federal Aviation Administration. SMAT also provides a 12-month flight training program that takes students through private, instrument and commercial pilot certifications with endorsements in high performance and tailwheel aircraft. The primary focus is to train aircraft pilots and mechanics for service in support of mission organizations and individuals who are working to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the most remote locations around the world.
