What We Do
The Urban Mission provides hot meals each week through a ministry called the Unity Kitchen. A large scale food distribution is held on the third week of the month with over 1700 families participating. Emergency Aid and Senior Food Boxes are also available.
We also provide emergency housing services including shelter and supportive housing for families. A Hospitality Room is available for community members to visit during the day for food, shelter, and other personal services.
Our Neighborhood Community Development Center offers a variety of programs throughout the year for the local community. This year NCDC will host a Coat Give-A-Way, Back to School Supply Give-A-Way, Minority Health Month, Shoe Giveaway.
The J.O.S.H.U.A. program is a work missions project established for youth and adults from various parts of the country to help make a difference in the living conditions of low income residents of the Ohio Valley. Services include, but are not limited to: painting, building of handicap ramps, replacing of windows, and yard clean up.
Mission Rejoice is a Saturday evening worship service and fellowship meal that offers an opportunity for churches, businesses and civic groups to engage themselves with the present worshiping community. On this night, groups prepare a meal for the weekly worshiping crowd, and lead worship by providing a message and music.
The Urban Mission provides basic health screenings for the homeless community and refers individuals in need of additional care to the Jefferson County 4th Street Health Center.
Through the generous support of local individuals, groups, churches and businesses, the Urban Mission is able to distribute full Thanksgiving meals to families in need as well as Christmas toys and gifts to children and teens in OH and WV during the holiday season.
