Base Ministry

Most great things start with a good base. Architects start with a foundation, dynastic sports programs have a core of great players and coaches, and chefs use flavor bases for their best dishes.

We believe leadership in the church is the same. A good foundation of leadership in the church can not only deepen what young people in the church are learning but also add to the core of a missional team that is sharing their faith and serving Jesus Christ.

We believe this so much we recently changed our name from Youth Missions International to Base Ministry. If you want to know more about this transition click here!

Our History

In 2007, Base Ministry (originally known as Youth Missions International) was started out of a need for seeing young people empowered to share their faith in an active and challenging environment. The co-founders, Brian Hughes and Rick and Raeann Velasquez, had been long-time leaders in Awana’s Missionary-In-Training program and wanted to ensure that young people would continue to receive evangelism training coupled with a mission experience. So in the summer of 2007, our first mission team headed to Ukraine.

Our Mission

Our mission process prepares individuals and groups to confidently share their faith for a lifetime while providing great ministry experiences around the world. Those who go spend time training and preparing, being challenged to grow in their leadership and faith prior to leaving for their ministry site. When they go, participants learn from and work alongside established missionaries to support the local church and to spread the good news of Jesus Christ throughout the community.

Youth volunteers grow in confidence as they help lead children who might not attend traditional church to hear the message of Jesus. In addition, college-age interns grow into young Christian leaders as they prepare for and direct camp for churches needing their assistance. Base Sports uses VBS style sports camps as a way to grow the church, build its relationships in the community, and train more young leaders.

What We Do

At Base Ministry, we strive to live out our mission of helping young people live God’s Word, share the gospel, and serve His church. Our hope is to work alongside churches to develop and empower the next generation of disciple-makers from their local congregations. Our empowerment model below depicts four ways we work alongside churches to empower their ministry.
