Bringing light and hope after Hurricane Matthew

It was the biggest hurricane to hit Haiti in almost eight years. All of America seemed to come together in prayer, and God responded in mighty ways. Much of the island experienced nothing but a light storm and the expected destruction was seemingly held back by the very hand of God.

Yet the communities who were in the path of the storm were completely devastated.

Although it appears much of the world has already began to move on, restoration has just begun in Haiti, and we are expecting an uphill battle.

Global Vision Citadelle Ministries supports many communities across the country. We work through the local church to bring the hope and light of Christ into the darkest places.

One of the communities supported by GVCM is the island of Ile-a-Vache just off the cost of Les Cayes, Haiti.

It is a beautiful island, as one would expect an island to be in the Caribbean. It was also one of the most devastated in the path of Matthew.

As Pastor Yves, the Executive Director of GVCM, visited the island this week he was met with devastation beyond his expectations.

This island is out of the way of the food track and it is difficult and expensive to travel to. Our fear is the people here may be overlooked or even forgotten. The truth is they are never forgotten by the very God who controls the winds and the waves. We are calling on the church to display such a truth to the people of Haiti by responding in big way.

The needs are both basic and overwhelming, yet we believe God is working even in this to bring glory to His name and goodness to our lives.

We know many in the States have a desire to help but the statistics, photos and stories coming out of Haiti overwhelm our senses and can tend to paralyze us. We believe the worst thing we can do however is nothing.

Jesus was able to take mud and heal a blind man and a young boys lunch to feed a crowd – what is it you can trust in the hands of Christ and watch him use it in mighty ways?

If you would like to use your God-given gifts to serve the beautiful people of Haiti you can email sarah@gvcm.org and she will assist you in your planning. We would love to have one team a week visit over the next six months. Medical teams, worship teams, construction teams – our impact is only as great as the response from the body of Christ.
