I was on my way back home from Kupang to Bali in 2004. My flight was delayed so I sent to a park around the airport and found more than 10 children, age around 6-11 years old. They were dressed with shabby clothes and no sandals. Each of them was holding a big plastic bag and picking up used plastic water bottles. I had never seen a scene like this.
I learned they were not in school and learned they were from Rote. I bought them some local rice and provided some water. Before we ate, we prayed and one of the children whispering slowly asked, “are you a Christian?”
I said yes, and in return I asked them “are you children also Christians?” Most of them said yes, but there was one child who said, “we used to believe in Jesus but not anymore”. I knew I had to do something.
Father Heart Home Children’s Center’s mission is to prepare the next generation to fear the Lord and have wisdom. To provide facilities where the discipled children can continue their studies. To have faith to have courage to dream for their future life calling even in the face of much resistance. And finally, to work. To provide training and education to awaken their initiative and their passion so in the future they can be independent.
Our step by step ministry at Father Heart Home Children’s Center includes our Generation Dream House, an orphanage for abandoned children and children from poor families. We provide education for early age children and for older children through our elementary school. We offer training in agriculture and poultry businesses. We also focus on discipleship through our Mission School and our Prayer Center.
These projects are massive and we are regular people, but Rote’s children belong to God and they are very precious and extraordinary. Therefore I personally put all my hope in Christ, believe and convinced that in God’s extraordinary hand, we all can hold each other’s hand bringing Rote’s generation to realize their dreams.
