Royal Legacy Christian Academy

Royal Legacy Christian Academy is a dual language/ Spanish immersion school serving K-7th grade in Waterloo, Iowa. Our mission is to create a safe and friendly Christ-centered environment where students can flourish academically and grow spiritually. We serve a predominately under resourced community and offer tuition on a sliding scale so that household income is not a barrier.

Our History

Friends and Co-Founders Chassidi Martin and Kendall Helmer began homeschooling their kids together after an unsuccessful search for an culturally diverse, dual language Christian school in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. They began meeting in their homes at first and then at Harvest Vineyard Church. During this experience, God planted seeds of a vision much bigger than involving just their children. Chassidi and Kendall began to imagine a space where more kids could be involved in a loving, authentic Christian school environment that was affirming and empowering. An environment where a socio economic status did not deter access, cultural identity was celebrated and language learning was a priority.

Our Mission

Our vision is to leave a legacy of faith, academic excellence and empowerment for children, families, and the community. Our mission is to create a safe and friendly Christ-centered environment where students can flourish academically and grow spiritually.

Our Values

1. We believe that all children have tremendous potential and possess a God-given capacity for achieving excellence. 2. We believe that a solid Christian education should be affordable and accessible regardless of socioeconomic status. 3. We believe all students should develop high proficiency in another language and that language should be taught within its cultural context. 4. We believe that all students can achieve academic success with high expectations, rigorous curriculum and culturally relevant pedagogy. 5. We believe students learn in different ways and in different time frames. 6. We believe a student’s past does not define his/her future success. 7. We believe that cultural and ethnic identity is a sacred gift from God and should be explored and celebrated. 8. We believe that cultural diversity enriches our lives and more accurately reflects the Kingdom of God.

What We Do

We have a culturally diverse staff and student body that worship together each morning during chapel and teach from a Biblical worldview. We have a Spanish immersion program in which we teach all academic content to our early elementary students exclusively in Spanish. We also believe in empowering families to take ownership of their children’s education through an affordable private school option. We are a volunteer and donation-based school with 90% of our operating cost covered by donations and only 10% covered by tuition. We consistently share the vision of our school with churches, organizations and various groups in our community in order to raise support for our students. We are currently K-7th grade and will add a grade each year until we reach 12th grade.
