SEE International – Surgical Eye Expeditions International

Since 1974, SEE International has restored sight to nearly half a million people around the world. Serving in over 80 countries worldwide, we provide surgical, medical, and educational services to the blind. These must be board-certified ophthalmologists in active surgical practice. See our website for a travel schedule and more information.

Our History

SEE International works to provide sight-restoring and life-transforming vision care to patients, regardless of where they live or their ability to pay. The generous support from our dedicated partners, donors and volunteers allows SEE to offer our patients high-quality eye care, to which they would normally not have access. Since 1974, we have treated over 4 million men, women and children, and provided surgeries to more than half a million people. We offer these services in more than 40 countries annually, including in our hometown of Santa Barbara, at no cost to our patients.

Our Mission

We provide essential and transformative eye care, around the world and right here at home. We bring medical volunteers and partners to care for the people who need it most. Our teams work side-by-side with local doctors and clinics to improve access to high-quality eye care. Together we break the cycle of hardships that blindness and visual impairment cause, making patients, families, and communities healthier and stronger.

Our Values

We create as much positive change as humanly possible by nurturing each relationship and leveraging every resource. Our ultimate goal is for every community to have self-sufficient eye care for generations to come.

What We Do

At SEE, we recognize that ending avoidable blindness worldwide requires more than traveling doctors performing surgeries. Our approach is both holistic and collaborative. With the support of our donors, we supply clinics, train ophthalmologists in the latest techniques, and help in-country partnering doctors provide long-term, sustainable vision care. SEE aims to achieve these goals through our international and U.S. programs, and training and education.
