The Salt & Light Council

The Salt & Light Council is a non-political, non-partisan organization, dedicated to promoting biblical moral values in the public sector. Further, we are a coalition of cross-denominational churches with active Salt and Light Citizenship Ministries working to rebuild our Christian heritage in America. We seek to love and care for all of God’s people, transforming hearts and minds through prayer, education and action.

We mobilize Christians at the grassroots level, helping them to live out their responsibility to influence government and civic affairs for good. History has clearly shown that without a strong, godly influence to overcome the natural tendency toward evil, governmental authority will destroy God-given rights, including the right to hear and speak His truth.

Our History

The year was 2008. California voters had previously passed Proposition 22, legislation that defined marriage as between one man and one woman only. Judicial activists threw it out, thereby opening the door for same-sex “marriages” to be performed in violation of voters’ wishes and, more importantly, in violation of how God established the family unit—the best environment for raising the next generation. Concerned citizens quickly mounted a campaign to place new legislation on the ballot that would trump the judicial ruling by inserting the definition of marriage directly into the state’s Constitution. It was a desperate, but ultimately victorious, battle… waged largely by Mormons and Catholics. Where was the evangelical church? This was not a political issue; it was a biblical issue!

One visionary pastor, Jim Garlow, pastor of Skyline Church and Director of the Pastors Rapid Response Team, saw the need for Salt and Light Citizenship Ministries to be established in as many churches as possible across the country. Pastor Garlow approached Dran Reese and asked her to take the lead in San Diego and California… and the Salt & Light Council was born.

Our Mission

Our mission at The Salt & Light Council is to train and equip churches to establish Salt & Light Biblical Citizenship Ministries that will defend and promote life, traditional marriage, our constitutional and religious liberties.

Our Values

Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We seek to unify believers in Christ by supporting moral issues that we can agree on in light of scripture.

We believe there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all. He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all that come to Him through Jesus Christ.

We adhere firmly to the Biblical teaching of God’s sovereignty and man’s responsibility.

We believe that our Creator is calling his brethren to be united together and of one mind and one heart for the sake of survival as a nation and that we must return to His biblical word of Truth which has been revealed for the common good of mankind.

What We Do

A Salt and Light Citizenship Ministry equips Christians to reclaim and preserve our Judeo-Christian heritage though responsible, biblically-based citizenship. Our country and culture are experiencing moral decay. But, history proves that the Church can and should, be a powerful voice for good. A Salt & Light Citizenship Ministry mobilizes groups of like-minded, concerned Christians to pray, become educated, and take action on issues that undermine our biblical values and constitutional liberties.

The goal is to infuse the public domains of government and education with Christian principles and values. Led by church volunteers, a Salt & Light Citizenship Ministry creates maximum impact while requiring minimal time and effort from senior pastors and leadership. The Salt & Light Council is an incredible resource for building communities of believers who are active in biblical citizenship outreach and having a positive influence in government and civic affairs. This is also leading churches into many avenues of practical service in their towns and cities.
